David Woodward CD is at the printers!

David WoodwardThe third of the Suffolk Voices series has just been sent to the printers. And it is another cracker! The featured voice belongs to David Woodward, who is much loved because of his radio performances, his dialect readings and his book "Larn Yarself Silly Suffolk." David speaks the dialect of the Waveney Valley, which has a distinctively different sound from that of mid-Suffolk, as typified by Peggy Cole. On "Larn Yarself Waveney" David takes a nostalgic walk around his home town of Beccles, talks about his life in farming, and what it was like working with Keith Skipper and Lesley Dolphin, both of whom add their own generous tributes. But mixed in with his effortless and charming conversation are some of David's favourite stories and humorous poems, recited with rare brilliance.

"Larn Yarself Waveney" will be launched at Bookthrift, Beccles at 11.00 on Saturday September 4th. But you can order your own copy here now and it will be dispatched on August 27th.

Successfully launched on Saturday July 24th!

Gordon KnowlesBungay: Our Town In Sound introduced listeners to the extraordinary Gordon Knowles. Gordon is now in his late seventies but he still rises before dawn every day to feed the chickens on Ditchingham Roundabout, a round-trip of nearly five miles.

He is such a fine raconteur as well as a unique and irreplacable Suffolk character that we felt he deserves a CD in the Suffolk Voices series all of his own. The CD was launched at St Mary's Church, Bungay on July 24th at 12 o'clock. Gordon was there for two hours, happily signing copies for everyone. Old friends came along, and he made some new ones as well! The CD is now for sale. Go to our Contact page!

Peggy CDIn December 2009, we launched our series Suffolk Voices which presents great Suffolk characters on CD. Our first Suffolk Voice is none other than the legendary Peggy Cole.

Suffolk Voices featured on BBC Radio Suffolk and attracted considerable attention in the press. And judging by the number of phone calls and letters we received, Peggy Cole remains as popular as ever!
